The shift to digital ticketing has transformed the matchday routine for fans. Supporters can now store their tickets securely in Apple or Google Wallet, eliminating the need for printed copies or last-minute scrambles to retrieve lost passes.
“The ability to store tickets securely in Apple or Google Wallet has added a level of convenience that many fans have embraced,” said Adam Croot, Chesterfield’s Ticketing Systems and IT Coordinator. “From faster stadium entry to reduced issues with lost or forgotten tickets, digital ticketing has streamlined the process.”
“With clear communication and support, many have adapted confidently, and feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. More and more fans are adopting digital tickets home and away.”
Taking Innovation on the Road
The partnership with Ticketmaster Sport has enabled the club to adopt Away Ticketing, one of the most popular features across the EFL. Managing away tickets is a constant sore point for ticketing departments across the UK, and the opportunity to send the matchday stock to the visiting club for their distribution is helping.
“This season, we’ve successfully rolled out e-tickets for several away games, all with excellent feedback. The move has made a significant difference, especially for fans who don’t live locally,” Croot explained.
A process that often included ticketing departments collecting physical stock or sending on postal delivery can now be completed in seconds with a simple email, offering not only speed and ease but also a more environmentally friendly alternative.
Driving Operational Efficiency
Beyond the improvements to the fan experience, the club’s internal processes have also evolved. Staff previously tasked with sorting, tearing, and distributing physical tickets now benefit from a digital system that requires far less manual intervention. “The process is now much smoother, with no need to manually tear off stubs, sort tickets, or prepare and send envelopes. It has streamlined our matchday preparation and reduced the administrative burden on staff.The system is more reliable, faster, and requires less manual intervention, making it clear that this is the future of ticketing operations.”
