The Grand Final on Sunday 19 May saw the highest attendance in Hyundai A-League history.
A record-breaking 56,371 fans were there to witness Sydney FC overcome Perth Glory in the Hyundai A-League Grand Final.
It was the highest ever attendance at an Hyundai A-League Grand Final in the league’s 14-year history. The record was previously held by the 2007 Grand Final, when Melbourne Victory took out Adelaide United 6-0.
While Perth Glory usually take to HBF Park for their home clashes, the assistance of Optus Stadium was required to fit in the flocks of fans that the clash attracted. The Stadium looked stunning as the twilight match turned from day to night. The purple lights shimmering in the Perth backdrop provided a perfect setting to cap off what has been a remarkable Hyundai A-League season.
Unfortunately for Perth, the standout side this season couldn’t get the job done, falling at the last hurdle on penalties. The two sides were still locked at 0-0 after 120 minutes, but two missed penalties in the shootout proved costly for the Glory.

The next time the magnificent venue will host the ‘world game’ is when arguably the world’s biggest club, Manchester United, arrive this July. The Red Devils will take to Optus Stadium to face Perth Glory and Leeds United in two huge matches, on Saturday 13 and Wednesday 17 July respectively.
