State of Play: Sport UK

After an action-packed schedule in 2018 and major tournaments taking place in the UK and beyond next year, it seems sport has never been more popular.

The recent release of Ticketmaster State of Play: Sport UK, a unique piece of research examining public attitudes to watching, attending and participating in sport, reveals some fascinating insight across sport in the UK. The trends that emerge reveal a UK sporting landscape as it adjusts to changing times and attitudes. With some suggested challenges in the visibility of women's sport and, more surprisingly, a shift in the once-sacred concept of supporting one team for life.

Tina Mermiri, Director, Research & Digital Analytics, Ticketmaster International: “With the launch of the sixth report in our State of Play series, we continue to show our commitment to understanding our audiences and supporting the industries that we work in. Our 2018 report is the largest and most comprehensive yet with a sample of 12,000 lifting the curtain on what people in the UK really think about sport in this country, with complementary analysis from our database of over 30m ticket purchasers and transactional data from sports clients. This in-depth comparative study between football, cricket and rugby fans highlights macro and micro trends, from sports discovery to attendance, we look at the full picture of fandom, some of the challenges facing the industry, as well as the opportunities for growth.”
